Champions of the English Premier League, Manchester City are taking another chance at partnership with a crypto company after severing ties with another crypto sponsor about six months ago.
On Monday, the club revealed that cryptocurrency company, OKX will be the official sponsor of their training kit from next season. The OKX logo will also prominently feature on the training kits of their male and female teams at the junior and senior levels.
Global chief marketing officer at OKX, Haider Rafique told Decrypt via email that Manchester is an inspiring partner who has transformed the football business model, challenging the existing status quo by using a modern approach to build on the club’s heritage.
He claims that the two brands share the same philosophy stating that as Manchester City is widely regarded as disruptors in the world of football, OKX is also regarded as a disruptor in the world of finance. The deal was announced with a series of artworks of Manchester City players including Golden Boy and highly regarded striker Erling Haaland.
The announcement further strengthens the relationship between the two brands as OKX was announced last week as one of the partners for the Teams 2022 Trophy Tour which will also be taking place in the Metaverse on Roblox as well as physically across selected countries on all continents of the world.
Football teams have been dabbling into crypto lately with good reason as the recent crypto partnerships and projects are aimed at a wider fanbase that can only be reached in a particular way. Manchester City first dabbled into crypto when they launched a $CITY token, Manchester United’s training kit is also sponsored by the Tezos Blockchain.
Individual football stars are not getting left behind as Cristiano Ronaldo recently signed an ambassadorial deal with Binance that will see the creation of several Ronaldo NFTs and ex-players like John Terry are floating their own NFT collections on the space.
