Founder and CEO of Binance Changpeng Zhao “CZ” on Tuesday held a consultative meeting in Côte d’Ivoire with various officials as his exchange is looking to expand its base in Africa.
In an official communiqué from the office of the president, it was disclosed that CZ met with the country’s leader, Alassane Dramane Ouattara, the Minister of Economy and Finance alongside other top government officials. In the course of the meeting, a range of topics was discussed which focused on the financial, economic, and regulatory implications of integrating cryptocurrencies into the financial system of the country.
CZ also explained the importance of crypto adoption and requested the support of the government to integrate this activity into the country’s commercial exchanges.
This is the latest move mounted by the Binance CEO to try to gain footing in an African nation. It is also the second time he is meeting with a sitting African head of state over cryptocurrencies and Web 3 after a similar meeting with Uganda’s Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in 2018.
